Coventry, situated in the Midlands, is one of the ancient cities in England. World famous playwright William Shakespeare was born in Stratford, which is approximately thirty miles Southwest of Coventry. It is an industrial city and home for several inventions and productions.  The very popular Jaguar car company is based here. Frank Whittle, who invented the Jet Engine, was born here too.
This city is world famous for our Lady Godiva's life story, which happened back in the thirteenth century and bringing meaning to the history and great heritage of the City, we still celebrate it every year in the streets of Coventry. The Godiva sprit, a timeless message of caring, unity and empowerment, stimulation and a smile for those in need of friendship - symbolises the humanity of mankind.

Inauguration of the Bharathiyar University Europe Study Centre
The inaugural meeting to host the distance learning of Applied Tamil was held at Barr's Hill School and Community College, Coventry CV1 4BU on the 12th September 2011. Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University Dr C Swaminathan (Chief Guest of the evening) addressed the gathering of the Tamil community which was jointly organized by the Coventry Tamil Academy of Language and Arts and the Western Tamil Schools Federation. Mr Kandiah Ariyaratnam, Chairman of the Coventry Tamil Welfare Association presided the meeting and welcomed the delegates from Bharathiar University.
Ideally candidate for admission to the first year of the UG degree course shall be required to have passed the higher secondary examination (Academic or Vocational) conducted by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in the relevant subjects or other examinations accepted as equivalent thereto by the Syndicate, subject to such other conditions as may be prescribed.
During the questions and answer sessions, the potential candidates who wished to do the Applied Tamil course raised a number of questions with regards to the minimum qualification required. Number of suggestions was made and the Vice Chancellor Dr C Swaminathan, assured the potential candidates that he will place the possible suggestions to the University Senate and seek their approval which will enable the candidates to make the application for the distance learning.
