Teachers

Since its inception in 2002, CTALA has developed relationships with a diverse group of freelance musicians and dancers with varying skills, discipline areas, genres of focus and levels of experience. These talented and inspiring artists are at the heart of what the activities we do in CTALA. They have presented performances, delivered educational work and generally supported the work of CTALA. Our sincere thanks to their ongoing dedication and hard work.

Smt.Jeyachitra Sivamyooran, Dip in Bharathanatyam

Jeyachitra Sivamyooran is a Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher and choreographer of international repute and one who has participated in many dance exams as a dance examiner. She has conducted many Arangetrams and has choreographed and presented many thematic dance programmes in Srilanka and in the United Kingdom.

She began learning Bharathanatyam at the age of three and had the opportunity of discovering the prominent senior dance teacher Kalapooshanam Mrs.Thiripurasundari Yoganantham one of the foremost exponents of the Vazhuvoor tradition in srilanka as her guru. Kalapooshanam Mrs.Thiripurasundarai Yoganantham is a senior disciple of Padmashri Isaiperarinjar Valavoor Ramaiyapillai.

Under the wing of her Guru, she performed her Arangetram on September 1999. Over her years at Kalaimanram, she built her reputation as both an outstanding performer and a high-achieving academic. In 1999, she received her diploma for Bharata Natya from Kalaimanram and following from Diploma she is been qualified in teacher’s grade –Bharathanatyam by the North Ceylon oriental music society which is the national body of assessing arts in Srilanka.

She has won many prizes in the dance competitions, the first prize in Dance Drama all island level, She was selected to perform in many Television channels in Srilanka (Rupavahini,ITN,Shakthi TV) and was given a special performance in World Saiva Summit organised by All Ceylon Hindu Congress –Srilanka.

Following the graduation and with the blessing of her guru, Jeyachitra instigated Chitrakalaimanram –School of Bharathanatyam, her very own dance School. This school functioned as one of the branch of Kalaimanram which is the parent company Establishd in 1958 by Mr.Cumaraswamy in Jaffna.

Her students perform regularly in the community and participate in annual recitals and examinations at NCOMS (North Ceylon Oriental Music Society) Srilanka. Jeyachitra Sivamyooran was specially recognized as one of the young teacher who had staged most number of arangetrams in srilanka.

Jeyachitra Sivamyooran started her dance journey in United Kingdom in the year of 2008, she has been teaching dance in Coventry Tamil Academy of Language and Arts (CTALA) which is part of Coventry Tamil Welfare Association (CTWA) and Midland Tamil Association-Birmingham, and she has composed and choreographed many dance programmes in UK for her students which include

Aside from Bharathanatyam, Jeyachitra learned Veena and Carnatic Music. she holds a Business Diploma from National Computing Centre –U.K. and will be completing National Vocational Qualification -2 in Children’s learning and development run by the City Council Coventry U.K..
